ASSAM FLOOD RELIEF 2022
STATUS : ONGOING
BACKGROUND
This year, Assam has been witnessing torrential rains, rising water levels, landslides, erosion have cut off rail and road connectivity, creating acute shortage of food, clean water and medicines.
IMPACT OF FLOODS
As per the ASDMA flood reports, (dated 20 June 2022); 125 Revenue Circles and 5,577 villages have been impacted by flood incidents, including approximately 1.9 million people; over 100,000 of which are taking shelter in 373 relief camps. Furthermore, 54 people have lost their lives due to flooding and landslides across the state since rains began on April 6, 2022. A total of 32 Districts have been affected with an overall population of about 5542053 people. One of the major hubs for rice cultivation in India, because of the severity of the floods 108306.18 (hect.), of crop area has been affected.
OUR ACTION
With severe impact on households and disruption of access to basic amenities, it is pertinent to provide immediate relief to the affected families. We are aiming for the same and intend to reach the severely affected households in Goalpara, Barpeta, Morigaon, Darrang, Baksa, Chirang, Bongaigaon and Dhubri districts of Assam.

COLLABORATION WITH SESTA
Global Shapers Guwahati Hub, in collaboration with SeSTA is reaching out to flood-affected families to provide food, drinking water, medical assistance and other essential commodities in different districts of Lower Assam. In districts of Lower Assam such as Darrang, Morigaon, Chirang, Baksa and other flood affected pockets relief will be provided immediately. FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN
We are accepting financial contributions for the relief support. SeSTA and Global Shapers Guwahati Hub are running a fundraising campaign on Milaap, a crowdfunding platform. All donations to this campaign are also eligible for 80G tax benefits. All your donations would go to a dedicated bank account, managed by SeSTA and will be used solely for the relief purposes.

FUNDRAISER EVENT
A fundraiser event was held on the 26th of June from 8pm onwards at the Abacus Brewing Co & Kitchen in Khanapara, where renowned musicians David Goldsmith & Arwin, Poonam & Benjamin, and Arghadeep & Writam, will be taking the stage to raise money for the cause. 5 percent of all contributions over the weekend on the Milaap campaign will be matched by the platform to boost the cause further. The funds raised are being utilised to provide relief kits consisting of ration and essentials to flood affected districts of Lower Assam, such as Darrang, Morigaon, Chirang and Baksa.
